Qazigund, Jan 6: Amid the water crisis due to freezing temperatures in the valley, the Jal Shakti Department Qazigund on Monday issued a public advisory to prevent freezing and bursting of water pipes in view of prevailing harsh winter conditions.

Legislators, delegations call on Jal Shakti Minister

In a statement, “We would like to inform the public that all water supply schemes are operating smoothly, and water is being supplied as per schedule. However, it has come to our notice that some households are facing issues due to frozen connection pipes. This is likely a result of the extreme cold weather affecting exposed or uninsulated water pipes”, it said.

“To address this issue, we advise the following precautions: 1. Insulate exposed water pipes using foam, cloth, or other suitable materials. 2. Allow a small trickle of water to flow through the taps to prevent freezing. 3. Use safe methods, such as warm water or a hairdryer, to thaw frozen pipes. Do not use open flames. 4. Ensure proper maintenance of your water connection to avoid further complications”, reads the statement.

“We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a continuous water supply during this cold spell. For further assistance, please contact the relevant department”, it said.

Meanwhile, a senior official at Jal Shakti (PHE) Sub-division Qazigund told that department will continue to take all necessary steps to provide smooth water supply across Qazigund belt without any inconvenience to general public despite the ongoing challenges posed by the weather.
