Tral, June 24: The tragic and mysterious death of Surjeet Singh Shanty, a young Sikh man from Dharamgund village in Tral, has sparked deep anguish and outrage within the local community. Surjeet, the son of Late Foja Singh, was found hanging from a tree near his village—an incident that has raised serious concerns and calls for justice.
In a press statement issued today, senior Congress leader Surinder Singh Channi described the incident as “deeply disturbing” and called for a fair, impartial, and time-bound investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
“This is not just a personal loss—it raises serious questions that demand immediate answers,” Channi stated. “The people have a right to know the truth. No stone must be left unturned to uncover it.”
Channi said that he had personally spoken with SSP Awantipora, Sajad Ahmad, who assured him that the matter is being taken seriously. “According to the SSP, both Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) testing and the postmortem examination have been properly conducted.”
The Congress leader appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement, while also warning against any efforts to suppress the truth.
“Let it be clear—no attempt to hush up the truth will be tolerated. We stand firmly with the family of Surjeet Singh Shanty and will continue to raise this issue until justice is delivered,” Channi Singh added.
