Srinagar: In a remarkable display of devotion, thousands of devotees converged at the Charar-e-Sharief shrine in Budgam on Wednesday to celebrate the annual Urs of the revered Sufi saint Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA), also known as Sheikh-ul-Aalam, Alamdar-e-Kashmir, and Nund Reshi.

This gathering marks a significant event in Kashmir’s spiritual calendar, attracting individuals from diverse backgrounds who come to honor the teachings of Sheikh Nooruddin, which emphasize simplicity, truthfulness, justice, love, and service to humanity—principles that continue to inspire generations.

Men, women, and children from across the region arrived in reverence to offer prayers and pay homage at the saint’s mausoleum. The three-day observance commenced on Monday with Poshakbandi, a ceremonial dressing of the shrine, followed by a night of Shab Khawani on Tuesday, during which devotees engaged in night-long prayers, seeking peace, prosperity, and divine blessings for Kashmir. The Urs celebration culminated on Wednesday as crowds flocked to the holy shrine, chanting prayers and reflecting on the teachings of Sheikh Nooruddin, whose spiritual influence has profoundly shaped Kashmir since the 14th century.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also visited Ziyarat Sharief to pay homage, accompanied by cabinet colleagues. “My party and I fervently prayed for lasting peace and prosperity in J&K and Ladakh,” he said.

To ensure smooth proceedings, the Budgam district administration set up comprehensive arrangements, including on-site medical facilities, efficient traffic management, and security measures. Local volunteers worked closely with authorities to handle the large crowd, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

The Urs of Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani holds immense significance for Kashmiris, offering an opportunity to connect with the saint’s legacy and reflect on his timeless message. This annual pilgrimage provides spiritual strength and serves as a source of inspiration for devotees who gather to renew their commitment to his teachings of compassion, humility, and service.

The Urs at Charar-e-Sharief is a cherished tradition, embodying a rich cultural heritage and fostering unity among the people who come together to honor the enduring legacy of Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani (RA).
