Srinagar: In a significant stride towards democratizing knowledge and promoting a reading culture, the 14th edition of Alisha’s Library on Wheels was launched today at Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Rainawari, Srinagar. The mobile library aims to bring books, learning resources, and inspiration directly to underserved communities.

The initiative, co-founded by education enthusiast Alisha Madhuvarshi, currently pursuing her graduation in the USA, and CISF officer Rakesh Nikhaj, is committed to making quality reading material accessible to children who are either outside the formal education system or face challenges in accessing quality content despite being enrolled.

With the launch at GHSS Rainawari, a carefully curated collection of competitive exam books—with a focus on Civil Services—was made available specifically for the school’s girl students. The library features the latest editions of preparatory materials for exams such as UPSC Civil Services, Banking, SSC, CAPF, Police, State PCS, UGC NET/JRF, and Law entrance, housed in an almirah with a seating setup for six students.

“This isn’t just about books—it’s about giving people a chance to dream, learn, and grow,” said Alisha Madhuvarshi, addressing the girls virtually from the USA. “We believe that books have the power to transform lives, and every child deserves the opportunity to turn the page to a better future.”

The ceremonial handover was led by Sheikh Zulufikar Azad, SSP Central Jail Srinagar, who officially presented the library key to Gulshan Afroza, Principal of GHSS Rainawari. CISF Contingent Commander Rakesh Nikhaj joined the event and shared the vision behind the initiative. Both officers emphasized the importance of hard work, discipline, and the transformational power of books.

Renowned career counselling expert and CEO Reform and Rehabilitation Foundation, Sheikh Inayat Ullah was also present and inspired the students by elaborating on diverse career options available post-12th grade, encouraging them to aim high and prepare with determination. He emphasized about early and conscious career planning based on one’s interest, aptitude and personality. He further discussed about the tools of career guidance developed by UNICEF and asked students to use them for their career development.

In a powerful gesture of encouragement, three top-performing Class 11 students were awarded free online SSC courses worth ₹21,000 each, reinforcing the initiative’s dedication to nurturing competitive aspirations among young girls.

Principal Gulshan Afroza lauded the contribution, promising to make full use of the resources to support the girls in their academic and career pursuits.

Alisha also announced her long-term vision of expanding Library on Wheels to 100 underserved locations across the country within the next few years.
