Ganderbal, Nov 20 (SM): Ganderbal Police have taken action against 14 individuals for allegedly misusing social media platforms by circulating misleading and provocative content, officials said on Thursday.
Police said the action followed monitoring by the cyber unit, which detected several posts that were defamatory, misleading or capable of disturbing public order. After verification, the individuals were identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Saad, Yaqoob Ahmad Dandroo, Arbaaz Irshad, Sajad Ahmad Lone, Danish Ahmad Ganie and others.
A police spokesperson said social media must be used responsibly and warned that attempts to spread fake news, incite communal sentiments or glorify unlawful activities would attract strict legal action.
The spokesperson urged the public to verify information before sharing it online and to report any suspicious or harmful content to authorities.
Police said they would continue monitoring online platforms to check misuse of social media in the district.(SM)
