Ganderbal, Dec 13 (SM):Ganderbal Police on Saturday busted a drug trafficking racket with the arrest of two alleged drug peddlers and seizure of over 1.8 kilograms of narcotic substances during a naka checking operation in the district, officials said.
A police team from Police Station Ganderbal intercepted the duo at a checkpoint set up at Tengpora Dhobipora, leading to their arrest, the officials said.
The accused were identified as Aqib Rashid Bhat and Tasaduq Majeed Bhat, both residents of Guzerbal area of Ganderbal district.
During searches, police recovered 1,024 grams of bhangpatri (ganja-like substance) and 58 grams of charas-like substance from the possession of Aqib Rashid Bhat, while 780 grams of bhangpatri was seized from Tasaduq Majeed Bhat, taking the total recovery to over 1.8 kilograms, they said.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Ganderbal, and further investigation is underway. The seized contraband has been sent for forensic analysis, while both accused are in police custody.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal said the arrests have dealt a major blow to drug trafficking networks in the district, adding that efforts are on to identify and dismantle the wider network involved.(SM)
