Police solves theft case in Budgam; Stolen gold worth ₹11 lakhs & ₹83 thousand cash recovered

Budgam, February 05: Police in Budgam have successfully solved a major theft case by arresting five accused persons and recovering a substantial portion of the stolen property.

Police Station Budgam received a written complaint from Mohammad Yousuf Najar son of Ali Mohammad Najar resident of Lakhripora, Budgam, stating that during the intervening night of 16/17 January 2026, unknown miscreants forcibly entered his residence and decamped with gold ornaments and cash.

Accordingly, FIR No. 12/2026 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Budgam and investigation was taken up.

During the course of investigation, a police team led by the SHO Police Station Budgam, utilizing human intelligence and CCTV footage analysis from multiple locations, identified and arrested five persons involved in the commission of crime. They have been identified as Umar Farooq Dar son of Farooq Ahmad Dar resident of Wasikhunrakhi Asham, Sumbal, Imtiyaz Ahmad Guroo son of Gulzar Ahmad Guroo, resident of Parimpora, Srinagar, Basit Bashir son of Bashir Ahmad Khan resident of Pehlipora Safapora Ganderbal, Bilal Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Gani Dar resident of Safapora Lar, Ganderbal and Bilal Ahmad Guroo son of Abdul Rashid Guroo resident of Wangipora, Sumbal.

Stolen property, including gold ornaments worth approximately ₹11 lakh and cash amounting to ₹83 thousand, has been recovered besides, two vehicles used in the commission of crime were also seized. Investigation has also revealed the involvement of three goldsmiths in the disposal of stolen property, who have been identified and booked under relevant provisions of law.

Further investigation is in progress.
