Srinagar, March 14 (Press Release): International Women’s Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the auditorium of Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), Srinagar, in collaboration with Kalyan Trust. The event aimed to recognize the strength, achievements, and invaluable contributions of women and to promote the spirit of women’s empowerment.
The programme was attended by distinguished guests, social activists, students, and members of civil society. Prof. Dr. Mir Mohammad Maqbool, President and Founder of VMS, delivered the introductory address and emphasized the importance of empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities in society.
The gathering was also addressed by Prof. Masooda Yasin, Vice President of VMS, and dr Harbaksh Singh, who attended the event as the Guest of Honour. The Chief Guest, Dr. Ruveda Salam, appreciated the efforts of VMS and Kalyan Trust for their continued commitment to social welfare and spoke about encouraging women’s participation in leadership, education, and public service.
Inderjeet Kaur also shared her thoughts on the importance of supporting and uplifting women in every sphere of life. She highlighted the vision of Kalyan Trust to empower communities through compassion, social support, and initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for women.
Students from Shafaqat Special/Inclusive School presented inspiring messages on women’s empowerment, adding a special touch to the programme. A Felicitation Ceremony was also held to honour several women achievers from fields such as journalism, law, education, para sports, social work, and entrepreneurship.
During the programme, Kalyan Trust also provided livelihood support cheques to two beneficiaries of VMS as part of its humanitarian initiatives.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, with participants reaffirming the message that empowered women build a stronger and more inclusive society.
