Ganderbal, Apr 06: Police on Monday conducted a district-wide inspection of chemist and medical shops in Ganderbal as part of an anti-drug campaign, officials said.
The drive was carried out under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” to curb drug abuse and illegal sale of pharmaceutical drugs.
Multiple teams were constituted to ensure strict enforcement of norms governing the sale of medicines, they said.
During the inspections, records related to the sale and purchase of scheduled drugs were verified and shopkeepers were sensitised about legal provisions and consequences of unauthorised sale of prescription medicines.
Officials said special focus was laid on ensuring that habit-forming drugs are not sold without valid prescriptions and that proper documentation is maintained as per guidelines.
Shop owners were warned against violations and advised to follow prescribed norms while dispensing medicines.
Police said such drives will continue in future with greater intensity to check drug abuse and illegal activities.
The public has also been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share information related to drug misuse.
