Srinagar | April 15, 2026: The Jammu & Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF) has issued an earnest appeal to the government, calling for the immediate release of pending School Grants and School Maintenance Grants to ensure the smooth functioning of educational institutions across the region.

Highlighting the financial constraints faced by schools, the forum stated that institutions lack independent revenue sources and rely entirely on government support for their daily operations and upkeep. The delay in disbursement of funds has left many schools struggling to maintain basic facilities and provide a conducive learning environment.

The situation has been further aggravated by infrastructural challenges, with several schools reported to be fully damaged and many others partially affected. This has significantly disrupted academic activities, placing students at a disadvantage and raising concerns about the overall quality of education.

Chairman of JKTF, Showkat Ali Beigh, emphasized that the timely release of funds is crucial for maintaining educational standards and ensuring uninterrupted academic processes. He stressed that without immediate financial support, schools will continue to face severe operational difficulties.

The forum has appealed to the Education Minister, Sakeena Masood Itoo, Secretary Education, Ram Niwas Sharma, and the Director of Samagra Shiksha J&K to intervene and facilitate the prompt release of the pending grants in the larger interest of students and the education system.

Provincial President JKTF, Irfan Nazir, reiterated that the release of school grants is not merely an administrative responsibility but a vital step toward strengthening the education sector. He noted that investing in school infrastructure and maintenance directly contributes to the future of students and urged authorities to act with urgency and responsibility.

The statement was issued by the Media and Public Relations Wing of JKTF through Khalid Bashir Tilgami.
