Srinagar, Press Release: The National Child Development Council held a core committee meeting to discuss a resolution for mandatory Montessori teacher training certification for teachers in Anganwadi centers and pre-primary sections, including LKG, UKG, and pre-KG classes.

During the discussion, members stressed the need for trained teachers in early childhood education. They said children in Anganwadis need strong foundational learning at an early age.

Members pointed out that Montessori-trained teachers can offer activity-based and child-centered learning methods instead of focusing on basic care routines.

Participants noted that mandatory Montessori training would help teachers understand child development, communication skills, creativity, confidence building, and hands-on learning techniques.

Speakers also mentioned that trained teachers could aid in the overall development of children, covering social, emotional, moral, and cognitive growth.

They emphasized that early childhood education should be managed by certified and well-trained teachers, especially in Anganwadi and kindergarten sections. The discussion featured suggestions for the government to introduce stricter policies to ensure that only Montessori-trained teachers are hired in preschool and Anganwadi institutions.

Members added that activity-based and play-based teaching methods taught in Montessori training could strengthen foundational education and enhance the overall learning environment for children at the grassroots level.

The meeting ended with participants supporting the proposal and urging the government to consider making Montessori teacher training certification mandatory for Anganwadi and preschool teachers.
