Ganderbal, Aug 9 (SM): Ganderbal Police has arrested three persons and recovered around 63 grams of heroin-like substance and ₹20,950 in suspected drug proceeds after establishing the backward linkage from street-level peddlers to their alleged supplier, officials said on Sunday.
The breakthrough came on August 7 when police, during naka checking at Warpora Crossing, intercepted two persons identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar and Arbaz Ahmad Reshi after they allegedly attempted to flee on noticing the police party.
Around 11 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession during personal searches, police said.
During the subsequent investigation and backward-linkage verification, police traced the alleged source of supply to Ajaz Ahmad Dar of Chowdribagh in Ganderbal.
A search of his premises led to the recovery of around 52 grams of heroin-like substance and ₹20,950 in cash, suspected to be proceeds of drug trafficking, following which he was arrested, police said.
The total recovery in the case stands at approximately 63 grams of heroin-like substance and ₹20,950 in suspected drug proceeds.
A case, FIR No. 131/2026, has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, police said.
The seized substance has been secured as per due procedure and samples are being sent for forensic examination. Further investigation is underway to identify additional linkages and other persons allegedly involved in the drug network.
Police said it remains committed to dismantling the entire drug supply chain and taking stringent action against those involved in drug trafficking.(SM)
