IUST launches JKSC website; Commissioner Secretary Babila Rakwal inaugurates platform

Awantipora, Sep 11: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) launched the official website of the J&K Science Congress (JKSC), 2026, at IUST Main Campus on Friday. Commissioner Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), UT of Jammu and Kashmir, Ms. Babila Rakwal (IAS), inaugurated the platform.

She described the initiative as “a step towards promoting sustainable mobility and encouraging the adoption of clean-energy solutions on the campus.” Addressing the gathering, Ms. Rakwal emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts in cultivating scientific temperament among the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. She said, there was a need to nurture patience and curiosity among children. She stressed that universities could play a pivotal role in establishing Science parks to spark and nurture interest in Science from an early age. She appreciated IUST for taking the initiative to host the JKSC and emphasised the importance of such platforms in promoting scientific engagement among young people.

Vice Chancellor, IUST, Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting research, innovation and scientific thinking, and highlighted IUST’s preparedness to host the JKSC. He said, the Congress would provide a valuable platform for bringing together students, researchers, educators and other stakeholders to foster scientific curiosity, exchange ideas and inspire the next generation of innovators.

A detailed presentation on the preparations for JKSC was delivered by Prof. Aabid Hussain Shalla, Dean Research, IUST, outlining the arrangements and planning for the upcoming Congress. This was followed by an interaction and discussion on the proposed programme and preparations, during which various suggestions were put forward.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ruheela Hassan, Dean Outreach, IUST, while Dr. Farooq Ahmed, Dean of Sciences, IUST, presented the formal vote of thanks. The programme was attended by officials from the DST, JAKEDA and IUST. (Press Release)
