Tral, October 5, 2026: The Wildlife Division Shopian celebrated Wildlife Week 2026 at the Conservation Breeding Centre (CBC), Shikargah, Tral, with a programme aimed at creating awareness about wildlife conservation and encouraging public participation.
The celebration was held under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Suneesh Buxy, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K; Sh. Tawheed Deva, IFS, Regional Wildlife Warden, Kashmir and Conservator of Forests (Wildlife); and Sh. Sohail Ahmad Wagay, ACF, Wildlife Warden, Shopian.
The programme was organised around the theme “Connecting Habitats, Thriving Wildlife,” highlighting the importance of connected natural landscapes for wildlife movement, access to food and shelter, genetic exchange and the long-term survival of species.
Range Officers Feroz Nazir and Muhammad Younis, Block Officer Bilal Ahmad Reshi, besides other officials and employees, participated in the programme.
The event featured wildlife-awareness activities and creative poster presentations, through which participants shared messages on biodiversity conservation, habitat protection and responsible coexistence with wildlife.
Participants were also felicitated with certificates in recognition of their involvement in the awareness initiative.
The programme emphasised the importance of community participation in wildlife conservation, including protection of forests and wildlife habitats and respect for the ecological role of wild animals.
The Wildlife Division Shopian reiterated its commitment to continued awareness and community engagement, particularly among young people, to encourage greater participation in protecting biodiversity and wildlife habitats (Press Release).
