Press Note

Tral, October 20: Senior civil society leader and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader GM Kantroo alias Bin Kantroo has strongly condemned the reported attacks on buses carrying Kashmiri passengers in the Karnal/Nilokheri area of Haryana and Doraha in the Khanna–Ludhiana district of Punjab.
Expressing serious concern over these incidents, Ghulam termed such acts unfortunate and unacceptable, stating that every citizen of the country has the fundamental right to travel freely and live with dignity, security, and respect, irrespective of regional, religious, or cultural identity.

He urged the governments of Haryana and Punjab, along with the concerned police authorities, to conduct a fair and impartial investigation, identify those involved, and take strict legal action against the culprits without any delay.

Mr. Kantroo observed that attacks on Kashmiri passengers create fear and insecurity among ordinary people and undermine the values of communal harmony, brotherhood, and national unity. He stressed that the safety of Kashmiris travelling for livelihood, education, business, or other legitimate purposes must be ensured at all costs.

He further appealed to the concerned administrations to take effective preventive measures to protect Kashmiri passengers and ensure that no individual or group is allowed to take the law into its own hands.

“The dignity and security of Kashmiri people are non-negotiable. Any attack on innocent passengers is condemnable, and those responsible must be held accountable under the law. We expect the governments of Haryana and Punjab to act firmly and ensure that such incidents are not repeated,” Ghulam stated.

He also appealed to the people of both states to maintain peace, communal harmony, and mutual respect, emphasising that the actions of a few individuals must not be allowed to damage the longstanding bonds of brotherhood between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country.
