SKIMS In Collaboration With Clinical Infectious Diseases Society Of India Inaugurates CME On Infectious Diseases:

Srinagar 25/ 10/ 24: CME on Infectious Diseases was inaugurated today at SKIMS Auditorium. The event was organized by Infectious Diseases Division, Department of General Medicine in collaboration with the Clinical Infectious Diseases Society of India.
The event marks a significant milestone for bringing together leading experts in the field from all over India to share their knowledge and insights. The event was aimed to address the teachings and emerging concepts in Infectious Disease, equipping healthcare professionals with the tools and information necessary to enhance patient care.
The event hosted guest faculty from renowned institutions across the country who had discussions and presentations on critical topics affecting infectious disease practices.
Director SKIMS & Exofficio Secretary to Govt. Prof. M Ashraf Ganie welcomed the experts and appreciated their valuable presence. Prof. Ashraf acknowledged the contribution of organising Chairman & Head Infectious Disease Unit Prof. Aijaz Nabi Koul & his team and expressed hope that they will continue to render their services in future. He also congratulated the team for taking an initiative to set up local Chapter of Clinical Infectious Diseases Society of India and assured his support. Director SKIMS laid emphasis on preparedness of pandemics and remarked that role of Infectious Disease Unit & Clinical Infectious Diseases Society of India very significant in this. He mentioned that Third World Countries like India have double whammy of infectious & non communicable diseases (NED’s).The two make a deadly combination & research should focus to mitigate the occurrence of these epidemics, he added.
Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS Prof. Shariq Masoodi in his address termed the event significant and vital platform to share knowledge & expertise on the subject. Prof. Masoodi referring to COVID 19 said the pandemic highlighted the impact of infectious diseases. He further added that Infectious diseases are a number one cause of admissions in hospitals vis-a-vis morbidity & mortality. Prof. Masoodi draw his attention towards infection & diabetes and called the area very critical.
The renowned experts in the field including Prof. George M Varghese from Infectious Disease CMC Vellore and Prof. Kavita Saravu Head Infectious Disease Unit KMC Manipal graced the occasion as chief guest & guest of honour.
The Chief guest Prof. George applauded SKIMS administration for establishing an Infectious Dieseases Unit and appreciated the dedication of Infectious Disease Division Head Prof. Aijaz Koul. He said there is a more need for infectious disease specialists and called the speciality rewarding as he said all the infections are curable. He underlined the importance of advanced technology and added that field of medicine is changing with advancing technology and asked physicians to capitalise on advances of technology.
Prof. Kavita Saravu in her address congratulated the organising committee for hosting the event and said the outcomes of Infectious Disease Division SKIMS reflect through its functioning and underlined the importance of infection control in hospital setting and said the Infectious Disease Unit should focus on the area of infection control in hospitals and make it a top priority.
Head Department of General Medicine SKIMS Prof. Sonaullah , Organising Chairm & Head Infectious Disease Unit Prof. Aijaz Nabi Koul & Organising Secretary Dr. Suhail Mantoo highlighted the importance of the CME and said the today’s event is significant to advance the understanding & capabilities in combating infectious diseases for the betterment of patient care and communities. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Farhana Siraj.
The event was attended by faculty from SKIMS, faculty from various institutions and experts across country, besides, students and other heads of institutions and SKIMS.
