Ganderbal, May 26(SM): The body of a forest guard who drowned in the Nallah Sindh four days ago was recovered on Monday afternoon in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, concluding an intense multi-agency rescue operation.
The deceased, identified as Shameem Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir and a resident of Batwina, Ganderbal, had fallen into the fast-flowing waters of Nallah Sindh near Compartment No. 1 in the Paribal area while on duty on Friday.
Immediately after the incident, a massive search operation was launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Police, forest department officials, and local volunteers. Despite their tireless efforts, the body could not be located for the first two days.
On Saturday, Marine Commandos (MARCOS) were pressed into service to assist in the search. Their expertise in navigating the swift and treacherous currents of the Nallah played a crucial role in the operation. After days of coordinated efforts, the body was finally retrieved on Monday.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the local community and the forest department. Officials paid their respects to the deceased, remembering him as a dedicated officer who lost his life in the line of duty.(SM)
