Srinagar, June 1: Undeterred by heavy and continuous rainfall, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Srinagar today flagged off a mega cycling rally as part of the “Janjbagidari Movement” under the nationwide FIT INDIA Initiative.
Titled “Making Cycling Sundays Active,” the rally saw an enthusiastic turnout of 160 young cyclists from various parts of Srinagar, all eager to promote the cause of fitness and sustainability through cycling.

The event was flagged off from the Youth Hostel Gate by Mr. Ghulan Hassan Lone, DYSSO Srinagar, who was joined by zonal Physical Education Officers and officials from the Activity Section. Despite the inclement weather, the participants demonstrated exceptional spirit and commitment.

The rally route covered key landmarks across Srinagar, including Radio Colony, Rajbagh, SPS Museum, and LD Hospital, before concluding at the Youth Hostel Campus in Wazir Bagh. The seamless execution of the event was made possible through the dedicated coordination of the Activity Section of DYSSO Srinagar.

Addressing the participants at the culmination of the event, Mr. Lone emphasized the dual benefits of cycling — promoting physical fitness and offering an eco-friendly alternative to fuel-powered transport amid the global energy crisis. He encouraged the youth to adopt cycling not just as a sport but as a lifestyle.

The event concluded with the distribution of medals and certificates to all participating cyclists, acknowledging their dedication and unwavering enthusiasm in the face of challenging weather.
