Tral, June 14: District Development Council (DDC) member from Tral, Dr. Harbaksh Singh, on Saturday held a press conference to address a range of pressing developmental issues concerning the Tral constituency. The conference, held at Tral town, saw the DDC member raise serious concerns regarding alleged diversion of funds allocated for local panchayats.
Dr. Singh called the diversion of funds an injustice and said that people should express their resentment against it at the Panchayat level as well. He underscored the importance of upgrading local infrastructure, particularly the healthcare sector, by calling for the upgradation of the Tral hospital from CHC to SDH.
In addition to healthcare, Dr. Singh stressed the need for market checkings ahead of festivals like Eid to protect consumers from unfair rates. He also brought attention to the insufficient manpower in the Wildlife Department, stating that matter regarding the creation of new posts have been taken up.
A significant portion of the press conference was dedicated to the promotion of eco-tourism in Tral. Dr. Singh highlighted several ecologically rich areas — including Shikargah, Nagabaran, Panner Dam, Narastan, and Aripal — and advocated for their transformation into polythene-free zones.
“As a model, the tourist place in Shikargah and the Panner Dam will be taken up in the first instance,” Dr. Singh announced. “Soon, an order trial will be issued by the administration. We will try to go towards polythene-free and green trials so that our heritage and jungles are protected.”
