Awantipora, June 26: In a heartfelt initiative ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the District De-Addiction & Rehabilitation Centre Tral, in collaboration with the J&K Excise Department, organized an Awareness Programme cum Candle March under the banner of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ this evening in Awantipora.
Titled “Together, We Can Beat Addiction,” the event aimed to raise awareness about the growing threat of drug addiction and promote a collective approach toward building a drug-free society.
The march witnessed active participation from the Station House Officer (SHO) Awantipora, local social activists, and citizens.
Participants carried candles, sending a strong message of unity and resolve against substance abuse. The candlelight vigil served as “a tribute to those who lost their lives to drug addiction, and as a symbol of hope for those still struggling.”
An official from Cause NGO, which played a supporting role in the programme, emphasized the importance of community engagement in combating addiction. “This candlelight vigil is not only to remember those we have lost, but also to stand with those who can still be saved. If anyone in the community is struggling with drug use, we urge families to reach out to the Drug De-Addiction Centre Tral. Timely intervention can change lives,” the official said.
The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed annually on June 26 to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a drug-free world.
