Congress Leader Umer Jaan Slams BJP Over Mining Ban in Awantipora

Pulwama: Congress District President Pulwama Umer Jaan strongly condemned the “deliberate neglect and double standards of the BJP” regarding the ongoing ban on mining activities at the Bohu mining spots in Awantipora.

In a statement, Jaan said that, “While BJP leaders issue hollow statements, the ground reality is that it is their government—both at the Centre and in the Union Territory—that is directly responsible for this crisis. The same BJP that claims to care for the people has crippled the livelihoods of hundreds of local families dependent on mining work, construction, and transport.”

“Why is the BJP silent when locals are jobless? Why has the LG administration not lifted the unjustified ban? This is nothing but an attempt to control local resources, snatch the rights of Kashmiris, and hand them over to outsiders through backdoor contracts,” Umer Jaan said, adding that the people of Awantipora are not asking for charity—they are demanding their rights.

“The Congress Party stands firmly with them and demands immediate restoration of legal mining activities, proper issuance of permits to local stakeholders, and an end to this exploitation. The BJP cannot escape accountability by playing politics over people’s pain. We will raise this issue at every platform until justice is delivered,” the statement issued by Umer Jaan reads.
