Ganderbal Police Act Against Sale of Rotten Meat, Expired Food Items; Two FIRs Registered

Ganderbal, September 05: In a decisive move to safeguard public health, Ganderbal Police have registered two FIRs against individuals involved in selling rotten meat and expired food items at separate locations in the district.

Police said they had received reliable information about the sale of unhygienic frozen meat at Kondabal, Safapora. Acting swiftly, a team from Police Station Safapora, accompanied by the Food Safety Officer Ganderbal and the Executive Magistrate, inspected the shop owned by Abdul Hameed Lone, son of Abdul Hameed, resident of Kondabal.

During the search, a large quantity of boiled meat items, including rista and kabab, were recovered in rotten and unhygienic conditions, rendering them unfit for human consumption. Subsequently, FIR No. 14/2025 under sections 271, 272, 274, and 275 BNS was registered at Police Station Safapora, and the accused was arrested.

In another instance, Police Station Ganderbal acted on information regarding the use of expired eatables at Hotel Matamal Food Sale Point, Beehama. A raid was conducted and expired food items were seized from the hotel’s kitchen. An FIR, No. 145/2025 under sections 271, 272, 274, and 275 BNS, was registered and the owner was taken into custody.

Police assured the public that such anti-public health practices will not be tolerated and warned that those found endangering public health will face strict legal action.
