Srinagar, 19TH September (Press Release): The highly anticipated Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) will return for its 5th edition this year, from 1st November to 7th November 2025. This celebration of cinema brings together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts from around the world, offering a unique platform for cultural exchange in the breathtaking Kashmir Valley.

Since its inception in 2017, KWFF has been a key player in showcasing not only the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir but also giving voice to emerging filmmakers from the region. As the festival celebrates its milestone 5th edition, this year’s program will feature an expanded lineup, including international films, workshops, panel discussions, and cultural programs. These elements aim to highlight the diversity of global storytelling while fostering meaningful dialogues between different cultures.

“We are thrilled to mark the 5th edition of KWFF,” said Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Founder of KWFF. “It’s a significant milestone, and we are committed to continuing our mission of providing a platform for both local and global filmmakers. The power of cinema brings people together, and we look forward to creating an inclusive and vibrant space for cultural exchange and creative expression.”

The festival will feature a curated selection of films across multiple genres, including drama, documentaries, animation, and experimental cinema. Audiences can expect an immersive experience with screenings, engaging filmmaker sessions, industry expert discussions, and an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding achievements in various categories such as Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Student Film and Best Films in other categories.

This year’s festival will also maintain a strong focus on regional cinema, with special emphasis on films made by Kashmiri filmmakers. KWFF remains a vital platform for showcasing local talent, providing them with a global audience while also contributing to the growth of the Indian and international film industries. As part of this focus, the festival will dedicate an entire day to films that highlight women’s issues and another to films that engage with children’s interests.

A Platform for Collaboration and Inclusivity

KWFF has seen tremendous growth since its inception. In its previous editions, the festival hosted over 15,500 attendees, with a particularly strong youth presence. Films from 15 countries—including the USA, Italy, Iran, Afghanistan, South Korea, and others—were showcased, and more than 460 films were submitted. The festival’s impact is evident in the overwhelming media coverage, with over 500 media mentions, including in international, national, and regional outlets.

“We are proud to continue our association with prestigious film organizations such as the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Mumbai and Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune,” said Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan. “Their ongoing support is integral to KWFF’s success. This year, we are also excited to welcome some of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors and filmmakers. Their participation further elevates the festival’s status and attracts wider audiences.”

The festival also continues its deep engagement with local filmmakers, particularly from Jammu & Kashmir, with the aim of fostering a vibrant artistic community within the region.

Expanding Cultural Horizons & Youth Engagement

KWFF’s role in promoting the global and local film industries is invaluable, particularly for the youth of Kashmir. The festival’s educational initiatives, including workshops and masterclasses, have provided over 550 students from various colleges and universities with a deeper understanding of filmmaking. Through these initiatives, KWFF hopes to nurture future filmmakers and continue bridging the gap between the international film community and the creative talent in Kashmir.

In addition to its regular film screenings, the festival aims to shine a spotlight on films shot in Kashmir, celebrating the region’s beauty and the cinematic potential it offers.

A Festival of Hope and Peace

In a region historically lacking in cinema infrastructure, KWFF is proud to offer a unique opportunity to the people of Kashmir—especially its youth—to experience world-class films and international cinema. This year, KWFF is also dedicated to spreading the message of peace and inclusivity, in line with Gandhi’s vision of Kashmir as a beacon of hope. By promoting collaboration, understanding, and creative expression, the festival aspires to continue its role as a symbol of hope and resilience in Kashmir.

About Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF)

Launched in July 2017, the Kashmir World Film Festival is a pioneering event that has established itself as a cultural bridge, connecting Kashmir with the global film community. KWFF not only celebrates the art of cinema but also promotes regional filmmakers, fostering cultural dialogue and global collaboration. The festival has become a key platform for emerging talent and continues to contribute to the cultural revitalization of Kashmir through the power of storytelling.
