MRCS&G and GPA Join Hands to Promote Green Cover and Sustainable Fodder Resources

Ganderbal: In a significant step towards environmental conservation and sustainable livestock development, the Mountain Research Centre for Sheep & Goat (MRCS&G), Shuhama, SKUAST-K, in collaboration with the Ganderbal Press Association (GPA), organised a plantation drive of fodder tree saplings at the Shuhama Campus on Friday.

The drive was inaugurated by Senior Scientist & Head, MRCS&G, Dr Parvaiz Reshi, along with GPA President Sofi Ayaz, in the presence of Students Welfare Officer, FVSc & AH, Dr Aijaz Qureshi; Medical Officer, FVSc & AH, Dr Parvaiz Ahmed; SHO Ganderbal Sajad Assad;DO Shuhama Riyaz Ahmad Wani; members of the Ganderbal Press Association and scientists of MRCS&G. The dignitaries planted mulberry saplings to mark the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Parvaiz Reshi said that SKUAST-K is observing plantation drives across all its campuses under a dedicated green initiative aimed at strengthening environmental conservation while supporting sustainable livestock production. He underlined the importance of fodder tree plantations, noting that they not only enhance environmental quality but also provide nutritious leaf fodder for animals at the Research Centre.

Dr Reshi further informed that MRCS&G has planned the plantation of nearly 20,000 saplings, with the drive having commenced in early November and set to resume after the winter season in March. He expressed sincere gratitude to the Ganderbal Press Association, District Police Ganderbal, and all participants for their active involvement and collective commitment towards protecting the environment, enhancing green cover, and promoting livestock welfare.
