Srinagar, October 6, 2026: The Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), in collaboration with EnAble India under the #SeeAMillion Campaign, today launched #SeeAMillion Solutions Week 2026, a week-long initiative aimed at raising awareness about assistive technologies, innovative solutions and accessible tools that empower persons with visual impairment to read, write, learn, work and live more independently and confidently.
The inaugural programme was held at the VMS Campus, Bemina, Srinagar, and was inaugurated by Mr. Abid Iqbal Malik, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Srinagar; Mrs. Saika Khan, Assistant Director, National Career Service for Differently Abled, J&K; and Mr. Arshad Ahmad Guju, Co-founder and CEO, IA Multi Ventures Pvt. Ltd.
The event was attended by Prof. Masooda Yaseen, Vice-President, VMS; Dr. Farooq Ahmad Kaloo, Secretary, VMS; Er. Majid Ahmad Balla, Secretary, VMS; and Dr. Mohammad Ayoub Bhat, Administrator, VMS.
The programme witnessed participation from representatives of schools, colleges, NGOs, corporates, disability-sector organisations, persons with visual impairment and other stakeholders. Participants explored a range of assistive devices, digital tools and practical solutions designed to promote independence, accessibility and inclusion.
Showcasing Assistive Technologies and Innovative Solutions
As part of the programme, several solution areas were showcased to familiarise participants with accessible technologies and their practical applications.
VMS Digital Literacy Lab: Demonstrations highlighted digital learning facilities and accessible computer-based tools that support persons with visual impairment in developing digital skills.
Workplace Solutions: Assistive technologies and practical solutions were showcased to demonstrate how workplaces can become more accessible and inclusive for employees with visual impairment.
Educational Solutions: Participants explored accessible learning resources, assistive devices and technologies that facilitate education and skill development.
Daily Living Solutions: Innovative tools designed to support everyday activities, accessibility and independent living were demonstrated.
Braille Devices: Braille-based technologies and devices supporting reading, writing and learning were presented.
Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Srinagar: The CRC showcased rehabilitation services, assistive devices and support available for persons with visual impairment.
EnAble India – Blimey and HamariVaani: Blimey, a cloud-based digital literacy platform developed by EnAble India, supports individuals with visual impairment in learning computer and software skills through screen readers. HamariVaani, an interactive voice response (IVR) and digital community media platform, provides an accessible space for persons with disabilities and marginalised communities to share information, build confidence and connect with listeners.
DIC Srinagar Assures Support for Livelihood Opportunities
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Abid Iqbal Malik, General Manager, District Industries Centre (DIC), Srinagar, assured that his department would explore possibilities of providing livelihood support to persons with visual impairment in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. His assurance highlighted the importance of connecting accessibility initiatives with skill development, employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Solutions Week to Reach North and South Kashmir
The organisers emphasised that #SeeAMillion Solutions Week 2026 is not limited to the inaugural programme in Srinagar. The initiative will continue at different locations across Jammu and Kashmir, extending awareness and demonstrations of assistive technologies to communities, educational institutions and other stakeholders.
The upcoming programmes are scheduled as follows:
Thursday, October 8, 2026: VMS Sub-Centre, located inside the Primary Health Centre, Delina, Baramulla. The programme will focus on accessibility and assistive solutions for persons with visual impairment in North Kashmir.
Saturday, October 10, 2026: Government Higher Secondary School, Bijbehara, Anantnag. The programme will extend the initiative to South Kashmir, providing students, educators, persons with visual impairment and other stakeholders an opportunity to explore accessible technologies and innovative solutions.
The initiative aims to create a platform where persons with visual impairment, their families, educators, employers, institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders can see, experience and understand how assistive solutions can remove barriers, enhance independence and create new opportunities.
Towards Digital Empowerment and Inclusive Development
The #SeeAMillion Campaign aims to transform one million blind and low-vision persons into active citizens and nation builders through digital empowerment. Through initiatives such as Solutions Week, VMS and EnAble India seek to strengthen awareness, digital inclusion, accessibility, independent living and livelihood opportunities for persons with visual impairment across Jammu and Kashmir.
The initiative reinforces the message that accessible technology, when combined with awareness, training and collaborative action, can help create a more inclusive society in which persons with visual impairment can participate meaningfully in education, employment and community life.
