Qazigund, Oct 19: Apple growers in Vessu village of Qazigund in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are facing immense hardships due to a damaged irrigation canal passing through a road in the area.

According to various apple growers, the partially-damaged canal was rendered redundant after the authorities carried out the construction work on the road a year ago.

“The irrigation canal got blocked which significantly affected the flow of water,” said a group of growers.

The farmers said that the officials from the R&B department then promised them to restore the irrigation canal but nothing was done even after the lapse of more than a year.

Assitant Executive Engineer (AEE) R&B department Vessu, Reyaz Ahmad Padder told that the irrigation canal was total 650meter out of which 550 meter has been already completed, now only 100 meter was leftout due to the hindrance of locals due to land dispute among them, adding “Now we have to take up the matter with the revenue department for demarcation of land before carrying out the work on the irrigation canal” he said.

On contacting, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dooru, Parvaiz Rahim told that he would look into the matter at earliest.
