Bandipora, June 26: To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, District Hospital Bandipora organized a significant awareness programme today aimed at highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and the illicit drug trade.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer Bandipora, Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad, along with Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad stressed the need for a united and sustained fight against drug addiction. He called for active participation from all sections of society to address the rising threat of substance abuse, especially among youth.
Medical Superintendent District Hospital Bandipora, Dr. Masrat Iqbal Wani, while addressing the audience, said, “Drug abuse is not just a health issue—it’s a social crisis that tears families apart and cripples communities. Through consistent awareness and accessible treatment, we can help victims recover and reclaim their lives.”
Key speakers at the event included Dr. Umair Qayoom, Medical Officer at the Addiction Treatment Facility (ATF), Mr. Saleem Yousuf, District Programme Manager (NHM), Bandipora and Junaid Gayas Zargar, Counselor ATF. They spoke about the long-term effects of drug dependency and the resources available through government-run health initiatives to support affected individuals.
The programme also included interactive sessions. The initiative was well-received by participants and is part of the district’s broader efforts to curb drug menace and promote community well-being.
