Srinagar, July 11: Ujala Cygnus, a leading healthcare chain in Northern India, has appointed Nitin Nag as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. His leadership will be key to guiding Ujala Cygnus through its next phase of network expansion and delivering on its strategic priority of providing comprehensive clinical care in the markets it serves.

Ujala Cygnus, post partnership with Amandeep Hospitals is now a network of 26 hospitals with nearly 2,800 beds serving Tier-II and Tier-III cities across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, J&K, Uttarakhand and Haryana. It is dedicated to delivering high quality care to underserved communities and expanding access across North India.

The healthcare ecosystem in India’s Tier-II and Tier-III markets present persistent challenges. These regions are predominantly served by government hospitals and small to mid-sized nursing homes run by individual practitioners. While these facilities perform well in delivering primary care, they often lack a multi-specialty approach, resulting in a substantial migration of patients to urban centers for advanced treatment. Ujala Cygnus — supported by General Atlantic and the Amar Ujala Group — is bridging this gap by positioning itself as a trusted provider of comprehensive, affordable healthcare. Leveraging a differentiated, asset-light model, Ujala Cygnus forges long-term partnerships with hospitals to extend its network and enhance accessibility across underserved regions. This approach not only scales impact efficiently but also addresses the pressing need for specialized care in non-metro markets by equipping doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in these markets with the tools and infrastructure to deliver world-class care.

A seasoned leader, Nitin brings close to three decades of experience across healthcare and IT sectors, with a professional footprint spanning India, UK, USA, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Malaysia. Over the past decade, Nitin has been at the forefront of transforming Cloudnine – a pan-India hospital chain, driving operational excellence, enabling clinical innovation, and delivering patient-centric growth. Most recently, as Chief Operating Officer at Cloudnine Hospitals, Nitin led the chain’s national expansion, introduced new service lines, and revitalized underperforming facilities — thereby delivering tangible improvements in both performance and patient outcomes.

His earlier role as COO of Manipal Ankur, the joint venture between Ankur and Manipal Hospitals, saw him establish the brand as a leader in fertility care. Nitin’s foundational years at Tech Mahindra and MphasiS helped shape his strategic acumen in business operations, M&A, and client success, which he now brings to the healthcare space with great impact. An alumnus of the Advanced Management Program at IIM Bangalore, Nitin also holds a PGDBA in Marketing from SCDL, Pune, and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering from RVCE, Bangalore.

Dr. Shuchin Bajaj, Founder Director, Ujala Cygnus, said “We are thrilled to welcome Nitin to Ujala Cygnus at this defining moment in our journey. His experience in scaling healthcare delivery, combined with his deep operational acumen, will be pivotal in advancing our mission — to deliver high-quality, affordable care where it’s needed the most. With Nitin’s leadership, we are confident of building a stronger, more agile platform that empowers doctors in Tier-II and Tier-III cities to deliver world-class clinical outcomes close to home.”

“Joining Ujala Cygnus is more than just a leadership opportunity — it’s a chance to be part of a mission that brings high-quality healthcare to communities that need it most,” said Nitin Nag, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ujala Cygnus. “What excites me deeply is how we are not only transforming healthcare access for patients, but also empowering a new generation of doctors — especially those in Tier-II and Tier-III cities — with the infrastructure, clinical systems, and support they need to practice world-class medicine. Together, we are creating a platform where passionate clinicians can truly thrive and make a lasting impact.”
