Tral, August 13: Dr. Harbaksh Singh, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Health and Education and DDC Member from Tral, met today with Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), to discuss a collaborative initiative aimed at uplifting the standard of education in government schools.

The discussion focused on how IUST can support the grooming of government school students and teachers through structured programs such as teacher training, student exchange programs, exposure tours, visits to university laboratories, technology orientation sessions, and regular monthly visits of school students to the university campus.

As a pilot project, Dr. Singh proposed the adoption of UPS Kavil, with plans to expand the initiative by involving one school from each cluster after gaining initial experience and insights.

Prof. Romshoo welcomed the proposal and assured full support within the university’s norms to contribute meaningfully to the region’s education sector. He appreciated the vision behind the initiative and expressed IUST’s commitment to providing the necessary infrastructure and academic support.

Dr. Harbaksh Singh thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his time and for accepting the proposal. He also urged the Director of School Education to formalize the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Education and IUST. This, he said, would ensure sustained and systematic support to government schools and their teachers, ultimately paving the way for a model of quality education and technological exposure in the region.
