Srinagar, Oct 29 (Press Release): Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI) has created a new milestone as its Class 11 Media Studies student, Muntaha Masoodi, clinched the Second Position in the student film category at the Travelling Film Southasia (FSA) Film Festival 2025. The prestigious event was hosted by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, in collaboration with Film Southasia (FSA), Nepal.

The Travelling FSA Film Festival brought to Kashmir a collection of internationally acclaimed documentaries and independent films from across South Asia, aimed at celebrating storytelling through the visual medium. A total of nineteen films were screened, including fifteen student entries and four award-winning documentaries from the FSA archive. The screenings were followed by thought-provoking discussions between filmmakers, film students, and audiences.

The festival concluded with the announcement of results, where Stitch, a film by Government Degree College Baramulla, won the Best Film Award, and Green Valley’s student entry secured the Second Position for its originality, content depth, and technical execution.

Chairman of Green Valley Educational Institute, M.Y. Wani, congratulated the student and appreciated the department’s efforts, stating, “This award marks a proud moment for our institution. It is inspiring to see our students achieving excellence within the very first year of introducing Media Studies at Green Valley. Their success reflects the dedication of our educators and our vision to nurture creativity, innovation, and critical thinking.”

Media Educator Mohammad Asif, who guides the institution’s Media Studies programme, praised the student team, saying, “Our students are leading by example. They are proving that media is a potent force that shapes perception and promotes awareness. These recognitions reflect their growing commitment to storytelling as a medium of social change.”

Introduced earlier this year, the Media Studies programme at Green Valley Educational Institute has quickly positioned itself as a promising platform for young creative talent. Despite being in its inaugural year, students from the department have already won multiple awards at prominent inter-institutional events. Earlier, Green Valley students secured two prizes in the short film category at Rang-e-Chinar, the annual media festival organized by NIT Srinagar, and bagged the First Position at BOERKAMP X STEM FEST hosted by Burn Hall Senior Secondary School, Srinagar.

The Travelling FSA Film Festival was supported by Kashmir Observer as the media partner and sponsored by Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd., Birla Open Minds International School Pampore, Medina Enterprises, and Kaphtech Infrastructure. Participating institutions included Government Degree College Anantnag, Government Degree College Baramulla, Government College for Women Srinagar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Loyola College Chennai, SRM Welkin Higher Secondary School Sopore, Birla Open Minds International School Pampore, and others.

With these achievements, Green Valley Educational Institute reaffirms its mission to promote media literacy, creativity, and responsible storytelling. The institution remains committed to empowering students through hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom teaching with real-world media practices.
