Jammu, June 05, 2026: Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu today commenced its annual Summer Internship Programme in Media Studies for Semester-IV students of Urdu and Punjabi Skill Enhancement Courses. The initiative is aimed at providing practical exposure to the media industry and strengthening the link between classroom learning and professional practice.
Nearly 50 students from the Departments of Urdu and Punjabi are participating in the 15-day internship programme (05–22 June 2026) being conducted at News Now Network Jammu, a leading media organization of Jammu and Kashmir. The internship offers hands-on training in journalism and media production, including camera handling, script writing, voice-over techniques, news anchoring, video editing, and newsroom operations.
The programme began with a registration and orientation session at News Now JK Jammu and will continue through a series of practical training modules conducted by experienced media professionals. On successful completion, participants will receive internship certificates as part of the university-prescribed curriculum.
The internship is being mentored by Mr. Faheem Tak, Head, News Now J&K, and coordinated by Mrs. Atiya Mujeeb, News Anchor and Internship Co-Coordinator. Academic supervision is being provided by Dr. Anuradha Sharma (HOD Punjabi) and Dr. Liaqat Jafri, HOD Urdu Department, assisted by Dr. Taahira Shah and Dr. Balbeer of the Urdu Department.
Students from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur, Srinagar and Jammu, are participating in the programme.
On the inaugural session of the internship, Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, stated that such industry-oriented initiatives provide students with valuable practical experience, enhance professional skills, and prepare them for future career opportunities in the media sector.
The programme aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes experiential learning, skill development, and industry-academia collaboration.
