Ganderbal, June 21(SM): The Special Operations Group (SOG) of Ganderbal Police carried out a challenging rescue operation in a remote forest area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, saving the life of a critically ill shepherd who suffered a cardiac emergency, officials said on Sunday.

The rescued man has been identified as Najeeb Khan, a resident of Anderwan village in Ganderbal district.

According to officials, Khan was staying at his seasonal mountain shelter in the high-altitude Kaindalwa Top area when he developed severe chest pain and his health condition deteriorated rapidly. Accompanied by his two sons, he had begun descending towards his native village when an SOG patrol on routine movement in the area spotted him in distress.

The police personnel immediately provided first aid and emergency assistance in an effort to stabilise him. However, as his condition continued to worsen, the team launched a rescue operation through the rugged mountainous terrain and dense forests.

With no motorable road available, the personnel carried the ailing man on their shoulders for considerable distances while navigating steep slopes and difficult terrain. Local villagers later assisted the rescue effort by arranging a makeshift stretcher, enabling the team to continue the evacuation safely.

After nearly five hours of sustained efforts, the SOG team successfully brought Khan out of the remote forest area and shifted him to a hospital in an ambulance for urgent medical treatment.

Officials said Khan’s condition stabilised following medical intervention. His family members later conveyed their gratitude to the police personnel for the timely rescue, while Khan himself contacted the team to thank them for saving his life.

The operation underscores the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in extending humanitarian assistance and emergency support to people living in remote and inaccessible regions, officials added.(SM)
