Srinagar: The protest by Veterinary Intern Doctors at the Veterinary Referral Hospital, SKUAST Shuhama, entered its third day on Tuesday, with the interns continuing their demand for an increase in their monthly stipend from the existing ₹6,000 to ₹23,000.
The protesting interns are seeking parity with veterinary internship stipends being provided at other institutions across the country, stating that the existing stipend is inadequate in view of their internship responsibilities and expenses.
The interns have also appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, particularly Agriculture Production Department and Animal Husbandry Minister Javed Dar, to intervene in the matter and facilitate approval of their stipend proposal.
According to the protesting interns, the file concerning the stipend for BVSc & AH interns has remained pending with the Finance Department since 2023.
The interns urged the concerned authorities to expedite the process and approve the proposed stipend hike at the earliest, bringing their stipend at par with that of interns in other institutions across the country.
