Ganderbal: A focused effort to improve road safety and reduce traffic violations, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh, has initiated a major crackdown in Ganderbal. The operation targets prevalent violations such as underage driving, helmet-less riding, and overloading, all of which are significant contributors to accidents in the region.

Special enforcement drives were conducted in Ganderbal and surrounding areas, resulting in the seizure of vehicles, particularly two-wheelers. The crackdown also included on-the-spot counseling for violators, with a strong emphasis on educating the public—especially youth and their parents—on the dangers of unsafe driving practices.

In addition to addressing traffic violations, the operation tackled the issue of traffic bottlenecks caused by illegal vendors and obstructive roadside activities. Many shopkeepers were also found to be contributing to road congestion by encroaching on public spaces and parking areas. SSP Singh noted that these factors significantly hamper traffic flow, creating additional hazards. He said, “Our goal is to not only enforce traffic discipline but also eliminate roadblock factors, such as illegal vendors and shopkeeper encroachments, that pose further risks. Clearing these obstructions is essential for preventing accidents and ensuring safer roads.”

Parents are urged to prevent their children from driving and ensure proper documentation for all vehicles. The campaign also includes the formation of special enforcement squads aimed at ensuring smoother traffic conditions and improving road safety in the region.
