25 snow clearance machines pressed into service for snow clearance in Kulgam: AEE MED

Says 43% of roads cleared: Food stock in upper reaches has been already stocked for four months in advance: official; All 72 feeders of 11kV in ED are down, efforts are on to restore the electricity at earliest: Exen PDD

Kulgam, Dec 28: Following heavy snowfall in the district, the Snow clearance operations are going-on in full swing and all men and machinery have been pressed into service to clear the all roads in the district.

Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Mechanical Engineering Department, (MED) Kulgam, Khurshid Abdullah said that number of snow clearance machines have been augmented and the snow clearance operations are being carried out on all major roads connecting Kulgam with other districts besides other link and inner roads.

He also said that they have augmented 24 snow clearance machines for 585 kilometres of 162 roads in the district with
430.57 kilometres (74 roads) fall under priority 1 and 154.66 kms (88 roads) fall under priority 2”,

“So far we have cleared 43% of snow as on 12 noon on the roads in the district out of 74 priority-1 (P1) roads, 40 are cleared, covering 223.89 km out of 430.57 km. For 88 priority-2 (P2) roads, 30 are cleared, covering 35.57 km out of 154.66 km, adding remaining snow would be cleared at an earliest”, he said.

“I am myself monitoring the situation on ground and ensuring clearance of snow from all roads in the district ,” Abdullah said.

Upon contacting to Executive Engineer (KPDCL) Kulgam Abdul Hameed Akhoon told that 33KV lines down, all 72 feeders of 11kV in ED Kulgam are down, adding they charging them to check 11kV lines requires restoring 33KV lines.

He also said the essential line for Kulgam hospital is 75% operational, efforts are on to restore electricity at earliest.

Meanwhile, An official from district administration told that food stock in upper reaches has been already stocked for four months in advance, and 4×4 ambulances has also been positioned in the district for upper reaches incase of any medical emergency” he said.
