Pulwama (Tral): A Gram Sabha was conducted on Monday at Midoora in the Tral block, chaired by Dr. Harbaksh Singh, the District Development Council (DDC) member from Tral. The event saw active participation from the local residents, who raised several developmental and infrastructure concerns.

Dr. Harbaksh Singh began by highlighting the challenges faced by the village, emphasizing that Midoora is a large area with nine wards, while other panchayats typically have seven. He raised the issue of the area’s administrative structure, suggesting the creation of a separate Sarpanch Ward for Midoora to ensure more efficient governance. He pointed out that the current arrangement, where areas like Nanar and Takiya are merged, is problematic due to the size and needs of the area.

Addressing the concerns of locals, Dr. Singh said, “The funds for Midoora are very limited, and it is difficult to carry out all the necessary work with such a small budget. We have made efforts to secure funds from various sources, including DDC, BDC, and NREGA, but more is needed.” He acknowledged the generous spirit of the Midoora residents and praised their involvement in the Gram Sabha.

The development of a hospital building was another key topic discussed. Dr. Singh assured the locals that the land for the hospital had been transferred, and the construction of the building would hopefully commence this year.

The DDC member also reflected on the role of the Gram Sabha, stressing that it is a platform for the people to voice their concerns and that his role was to facilitate and witness the progress. “This is a people’s Sabha. We are merely witnesses to the work being done here. We will continue to advocate for more resources and try to address the needs of the people” he stated.

While the meeting addressed various developmental issues, Dr. Singh also highlighted the ongoing challenges, particularly with the electricity department. “The electricity infrastructure cannot be improved without adequate funding from the departments involved, including PRI, Sarpanch, DDC, and BDC. Unfortunately, without financial support, progress in this area has been slow,” he said.

The issue of road connectivity was also raised, with Dr. Singh mentioning that efforts are underway to upgrade the road linking Midoora to Pastuna, and he expressed hope that the work would be completed soon.

He acknowledged the efforts of local administration, including PWD, RDD, PDD, police, and civil authorities, but also noted that manpower shortages and lack of sufficient funds had affected the pace of work in comparison to previous years. “Despite these challenges, Tral has shown better progress, thanks to the hard work of our officers and administration,” he remarked.

Dr. Singh concluded by expressing hope that the administration would address the existing issues, remove obstacles, and ease the difficulties faced by the residents of Midoora.
