Ganderbal, Feb 2, 2025 (SM): The Geology and Mining Department, Ganderbal, has halted ongoing work at Cherwan Kangan after a contractor allegedly violated the work allotted by the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department. The action underscores the importance of adhering to environmental regulations and obtaining necessary inter-departmental permissions for mining-related activities.

According to reports, the I&FC Department had assigned Aijaz Construction Engineers Pvt. Ltd to carry out flood protection work on Sindh Nallah and its tributaries under the FMBAP Phase II project.

However, the contractor reportedly lifted material from one location to another at Cherwan Kangan, Ganderbal, in clear violation of mining regulations.

Following repeated complaints, an official from the Geology and Mining Department inspected the site and ordered an immediate halt to the work until further notice.

The contractor has been directed to appear before the District Mineral Officer (DMO) Ganderbal and submit relevant documents proving the legality of their operations.

Further action will be taken based on the contractor’s response and verification of the documents.(SM)
