Pulwama, March 4: The Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has initiated a proposal for the establishment of an Agricultural Research & Training Centre in the Tral area of Pulwama district. This move comes after a formal request by the Citizens’ Council Tral, represented by its Chairman Farooq Trali, who advocated for a Model Agricultural Farm in the region. The proposed centre aims to serve as a hub for modern agricultural technology demonstrations, training, and skill development for local farmers and aspiring agricultural entrepreneurs.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Nazir Ahmad Ganai, emphasized the necessity of such a centre in Tral to enhance agricultural practices in the region. The Vice-Chancellor requested the identification of 150-200 kanals of land across two to three potential sites to facilitate the establishment of the centre.
The proposed facility is expected to benefit the locals by equipping farmers and educated youth with the latest agricultural knowledge and skills, ultimately fostering agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship. The university has urged swift action on the matter to move forward with the government’s support.
A copy of the letter was also shared with the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama and Farooq Trali, Chairman of the Citizens Council Tral.
