District Budgam Rugby 7’s Championship 2025 Ignites Passion for Rugby at Syed Aga Mehdi Stadium

Budgam, September 2, 2025: Budgam witnessed two electrifying days of sporting spirit as the District Budgam Rugby Association, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Rugby Association and proudly sponsored by the J&K Sports Council, hosted the much-awaited District Budgam Rugby 7’s Championship 2025 at the historic Syed Aga Mehdi Stadium, Budgam, from September 1–2, 2025.

With 14 teams battling it out across three competitive age groups – Senior, Junior, and Sub-Junior (Boys & Girls), the tournament turned into a festival of adrenaline, discipline, and teamwork. Youngsters from every corner of Budgam displayed grit and determination, proving that the district is fast emerging as a hub of sporting excellence.

The closing ceremony turned into a celebration of talent and spirit. Mr. J.S. Mehta (Director, Physical Education, GDC Budgam) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, inspiring the athletes with his words on discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship. Sharing the dais as Guests of Honour were Mr. Asif Nabi (Pencak Silat Coach, Khelo India Pencak Silat Center, Budgam), Prof. Rukhsana (GDC Budgam), and Prof. Nuzrat (GDC Budgam), all of whom applauded the growing enthusiasm for Rugby in the district.

Mr. Areed Imtiyaz, Organizing Secretary, in his concluding address, set the tone for the future by announcing, “This is just the beginning — Rugby in Budgam is here to stay. With the continued support of the J&K Rugby Association and J&K Sports Council, we will host bigger and better tournaments every year to give our youth the platform they deserve.”

The event not only highlighted Rugby’s rising popularity but also showcased how sports can unite communities, empower youth, and nurture leaders for tomorrow. From thunderous tackles to breathtaking tries, the championship kept audiences on the edge of their seats until the very last whistle.

The championship concluded with thunderous applause, medals, and a renewed commitment: Budgam is ready to script a new sporting legacy through Rugby.
