Tral, September 17: District Development Council (DDC) member Dr. Harbakash Singh today raised serious concerns over the poor state of infrastructure at the Nowdal Fruit Mandi in Tral. While interacting with the media, Dr. Singh highlighted the urgent need for government intervention to save the region’s fruit economy from potential losses.

“We have a big problem with the Nowdal Fruit Mandi in Tral,” said Dr. Singh. “There is a mandi here too, but it does not have any infrastructure. The government has only written the name of the fruit mandi — beyond that, there’s nothing.”

He pointed out the mandi lacks basic amenities such as water, electricity, and flood alert systems. “They do not have a flood alert, they do not have water or electricity. They do not have a concrete system,” he added.

Dr. Singh expressed concern that the ongoing fruit season could be severely affected if immediate action is not taken. He stated his intent to formally approach the horticulture department and write to the government, urging the establishment of a full-fledged mandi in the area.

“I will appeal to the horticulture department and also write a letter to the government to build a full-fledged mandi so that the fruit season does not get wasted,” he said. “This is essential so that we can organise it in a proper and efficient way.”
