Awantipora, Sept 29: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) organized a series of activities from September 17 to October 2, 2025, to celebrate Sewa Parv (Service Festival), highlighting its commitment to health, wellness, environmental sustainability, and community service.

The celebrations began with a spirited rally in support of the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan (Drug-Free Campaign), where students and staff marched through the campus lawns and took a pledge towards building a drug-free campus, led by Prof. Yasmeena Ashaie. The initiative was organized in collaboration with the Health and Wellness Centre, the Dean of Students, and the Proctor Office.

The Alpine Club and the Department of Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change (DESCC), in collaboration with the Department of Social Forestry, Kashmir, organized a plantation drive at Wasturvan Hillock (IUST Campus-II). Native and climate-resilient saplings were planted to enrich biodiversity and promote ecological conservation on campus.

As part of the health and wellness drive, a medical check-up camp was held at the Girls’ Hostel, focusing on anaemia detection. Over 100 female students were screened, with a majority found to be facing or showing signs of the condition. The Health and Wellness Centre has planned follow-up sessions on health education and nutritional support to address the issue. The university community also engaged in a charity drive, where students donated books and stationery to support underprivileged sections of society.
