Pulwama, October 11: Congress District President Pulwama, Umar Jan, today led the party’s ‘Voter Adhikar’ (Voter Rights) Signature Campaign in Pulwama town, which was attended by many party leaders and workers.
Addressing media during the campaign, Umar Jan launched a scathing attack on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accusing it of deceiving the people of Pulwama through “emotional slogans and hollow promises.” He questioned the PDP’s track record, particularly in relation to development and youth welfare.
“It has been a year and a month since the promises were made,” Jan said. “Where is the deal that the PDP made with the oppressed people of Pulwama? Where is the beautification project, the maternity hospital, the marriage hall? And where are the promises made to our youth?”
In a passionate speech, Jan referenced the 2014 electoral promises made by PDP, saying that the party had pledged to “save Pirwar Kashmir,” but instead allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which he claimed was responsible for eroding the cultural and social fabric of the region.
“If someone snatched the dignity and beauty of Pirwar Kashmir, it was the PDP. And who did they do the deal with? The BJP,” he declared.
Highlighting the continued struggles of local youth, Jan said that despite assurances of rehabilitation and employment, many young men from Pulwama remain incarcerated. He recalled how, during past election campaigns, it was promised at Rajpura Chowk that every effort would be made to free them.
“My young man wanted employment, but he was sent to court. Today, those young men are still in jail. Where are those promises now?” he asked.
