IUST Concludes Two-Day Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction

Awantipora, December 24: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) concluded a two-day capacity building workshop on “Disaster Risk Reduction in Urban Planning, Development and Monitoring: Building a Disaster-Resilient Jammu and Kashmir.” The workshop was jointly organised by the Department of Architecture, Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction (CDRR), and the Department of Planning and Geomatics, IUST, in collaboration with the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (DMRRR), Government of Jammu and Kashmir.

The workshop featured technical presentations and interactive sessions by experts including Mr. Raj Bhagat Palanichamy (Senior Program Manager, Geo Analytics for Sustainable Cities and Transport, WRI India), Mr. Amir Ali Khan from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Mr. Gulzar Ahmad Dar, Joint Commissioner (Planning), Srinagar Municipal Corporation, and Mr. Sabzar Bashir, Senior Programme Associate, WRI India. The sessions focused on disaster–development linkages, risk-sensitive urban planning, infrastructure resilience and the integration of climate resilience into urban planning frameworks.

The programme witnessed active participation from academicians, government officials, engineers, urban planners and students. Participants included officials from the Administrative Department of Planning, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA), Rural Development Department (RDD) Kashmir, Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Kashmir and Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC). The workshop concluded with a valedictory session during which certificates were distributed to participating government officers by Mr. G. N. Yatoo, Director, Centre for Good Governance and Policy Analysis, IUST.
