Valedictory Function Marks the Successful Conclusion of the Three-Day Second J&K International Conference on Breast and Allied Cancer

Srinagar (Press Release): The three-day Second Jammu & Kashmir International Conference on Breast and Allied Cancer, organized by the Department of Bioresources, University of Kashmir, concluded today with a dignified valedictory function.

The conference was convened under the Organising Secretaryship of Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir and brought together leading clinicians, researchers, academicians, and students from across the country and abroad.

The final day featured four additional scientific talks delivered by eminent clinicians and researchers, along with online expert lectures, further strengthening the multidisciplinary discourse on breast and allied cancers.

A major highlight of the day was an interactive panel discussion comprising leading oncologists and cancer researchers from the Kashmir Valley.

The panel deliberated on the social stigma associated with cancer, particularly breast cancer, emphasizing the need for early diagnosis, awareness, and community support.

The session witnessed active participation from the audience, making it one of the most engaging segments of the conference.Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Organising Secretary, presented a comprehensive report of the three-day international conference, highlighting the scientific sessions, national and international collaborations, and the role of the conference in promoting cancer awareness and research in the region.

Prof. Abdul Hameed, Dean, Faculty of Biological Sciences, emphasized the importance of collaborative approaches in addressing cancer challenges. He appreciated the Department of Bioresources for its sustained efforts in cancer awareness and motivated the audience towards future scientific endeavours, stating, “Do not let cancer make you forget yourself.”

Mr. Hilal Khalid, SDPO Hazratbal, Srinagar, spoke on the legacy of scientific discoveries and the constant challenges faced by researchers. He encouraged students not to be disheartened by failures but to reflect, improve, and support one another in their scientific journeys, sharing his own motivational experiences.

Prof. Mohd. Salim Khan, President, Jammu & Kashmir Medical Council, highlighted the increasing incidence of cancer, particularly breast cancer among women, and stressed the need for effective solutions. He also pointed out drug addiction as a contributing factor to several diseases prevalent in the Valley.

Prof. Sariffudin Pirzada, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir, spoke on the importance of awareness and preventive strategies against breast and allied cancers. He acknowledged the contributions of the medical and research communities and stated that the University of Kashmir’s ranking is a result of excellence in research, teaching, and moral outreach. He lauded the Department of Bioresources for organizing impactful awareness programs and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives. He also recalled the historic 1926 Brussels Conference, attended by eminent scientists including Marie Curie, Einstein, and Heisenberg, underscoring the significance of scientific conferences in shaping future research.

The dignitaries on the dais were felicitated with mementos in recognition of their valuable contributions.The session was followed by an engaging Kahoot online quiz, wherein the top three winners were awarded certificates along with cash prizes. This was followed by the distribution of awards to the first three winners of oral and poster presentations. Mementos were also presented to faculty members, scholars, session chairs, media personnel, students, and members of the organizing committee.The valedictory function concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Mir, marking the successful completion of the three-day international conference.
