Sopore, September 12: A delegation of prominent contractors from different parts of Kashmir today met with Congress Chief Whip and MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat at Dak Bungalow, Watlab, Sopore, to deliberate on various issues concerning the contracting community across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The deliberations focused on the problems and concerns being faced by contractors. The delegation presented a memorandum outlining their concerns and requested Nizamuddin Bhat, in his capacity as Congress Chief Whip and MLA Bandipora, to raise their issues in the forthcoming Assembly session and take them up at the appropriate forum.
The implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) also figured prominently during the discussions. The contractors described it as an area of particular concern for the contracting community.
The delegation was led by Chief Coordinator Nazir Ahmad Mir from Central Kashmir. It included Tariq Rasool Shah and Meraj-ud-Din Khan from Srinagar, Reyaz Ahmad Dar from South Kashmir, Hilal Ahmad Sheikh from Kupwara, Danish from Handwara, Meraj Kirmani from Budgam, Mohd. Ashraf Peer and Khalid Bashir from Chara-i-Sharief, Showkat Ahmad Teli and Gulzar Ahmad Reshi from Sopore, and Showkat Ahmad Tantary from Ganderbal.
Representing District Bandipora, the delegation included Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Ab. Gani Tantray, Ab. Khalik Sheikh, Ab. Rashid Mir, Fayaz Ahmad Dar, Bashrat Hameed Haji, Raashid Maqbool and Khursheed Ahmad Khan.
The contractors apprised the MLA of their concerns and urged him to place their issues before the Assembly during the ensuing session. They expressed hope that their concerns, particularly those related to JJM and other issues affecting the contracting community, would receive due consideration at the appropriate level.
