Srinagar: Schools across the Kashmir Valley were buzzing with excitement on Thursday as students celebrated Children’s Day, a day that now stands out as a joyful and meaningful break from their regular routines. This year, schools organized a variety of entertaining and educational activities to honor their students, aiming to foster both happiness and personal growth through play and creativity.

The celebrations included a wide range of engaging activities such as games, quizzes, storytelling sessions, group discussions, and talent showcases. Teachers and students alike participated enthusiastically, with many teachers remarking on the value of giving students a day that emphasizes playfulness and learning outside the traditional curriculum.

“Children’s Day has become a truly special event here,” said a teacher from a prominent Srinagar school. “In previous years, it was more low-key. Now, we see it as an opportunity to celebrate our students’ uniqueness, allowing them to express themselves beyond academics. Events like quizzes and games may seem simple, but they actually help boost students’ confidence and allow them to develop teamwork skills.”

This year’s celebrations were particularly significant, as students were able to spend the day participating in activities designed to uplift and inspire. Some schools held special assemblies where students delivered speeches about their dreams and aspirations, while others organized sports competitions and art sessions to give students a platform to showcase their talents.

“When students are given a chance to engage in play-based activities, it enhances their motivation and interest in school,” explained another teacher. “These events provide an important break from the routine, offering students the space to relax and bond with their classmates and teachers. When students feel valued and celebrated, it positively impacts their overall well-being.”

For students, Children’s Day has evolved into an eagerly awaited occasion. “It’s a day we all look forward to because it’s so different from our usual school schedule,” shared one young student. “We feel appreciated, and it’s fun to see our teachers play games with us and cheer us on. The special attention we get on Children’s Day really strengthens our bond with the school.”

Another teacher emphasized that these events are beneficial not only for students’ happiness but also for building a positive school culture. “Celebrations like these are vital because they help create a warm, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable and motivated to learn,” she noted. “By dedicating a day to them, we’re telling our students that they’re valued and cherished, which is as important as their academic achievements.”

The annual tradition of Children’s Day has grown significantly in recent years, with schools across Kashmir increasingly recognizing its importance. For many teachers and students, it has become a celebration not just of childhood but of community and growth.

In the Kashmir Valley, Children’s Day now symbolizes a joyful connection between learning and laughter, fostering lifelong memories and leaving students with a renewed enthusiasm for their education.
