GANDERBAL, Nov 6 (SM): The Ganderbal Police in central Kashmir have arrested a man accused of abducting a girl and rescued the victim from Himachal Pradesh after a swift operation, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on specific inputs, a special team from Police Post Shadipora, under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), traced and apprehended the accused from the neighbouring state, officials said.
The accused has been identified as Firdous Rustum Khan, son of Rustum Ali Khan, a resident of Shatigam, Handwara, in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police added.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Khan, who is already married and has two children, had been using social media platforms to lure girls, they said.
After completing medico-legal formalities, the rescued girl was handed over to her family. A case under FIR No. 185/2025 has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway.
Police said the operation reaffirms their commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of women, and urged the public to remain alert while interacting with strangers on social media. (SM)
