This year’s theme, “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” emphasizes the urgent need for accessible, quality mental health care for all—regardless of age, background, or geography. World Mental Health Day, observed every year on October 10, aims to educate the public, reduce stigma, and advocate for strong mental health policies and services.

The Principal of Army Goodwill School, Yasir Malik, delivered an insightful lecture, underlining that in 2025, the global mental health crisis continues to impact millions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in every eight people worldwide lives with a mental health condition.

The awareness programme featured several impactful sessions on stress management, emotional resilience, and suicide prevention.

Shabnum Bano, a teacher at Army Goodwill School, discussed mental health issues prevalent in society. She emphasized the need for improved policies from the medical sector, particularly regarding the care and support for mentally challenged and specially-abled children. She urged policymakers, the private sector, and civil society to prioritize mental health and invest in sustainable, inclusive solutions.

On the occasion, Principal Yasir Malik reiterated, “Mental health is as essential as physical health. We must ensure no one suffers in silence.” He also highlighted the unique challenges faced by the local community and called for greater investment in mental health services. He emphasized the need to strengthen school- and workplace-based mental health programs, and to support public awareness campaigns to fight stigma and discrimination.

The programme was conducted smoothly and successfully with the efforts of PLVs (Para Legal Volunteers) including Khawaja Irshad, Mohd Sadeeq Kokher, who managed stage, seating, and logistics, and PLV Syed Ikhlaq Hussain, who oversaw other necessary arrangements.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Vice Principal Bilal Hussain Shah, who stressed the importance of organizing more such awareness programs. “Students are the future citizens, leaders, and pillars of society; educating them about mental health is a crucial investment,” he said.
