Ganderbal, Dec 23 (SM): Ganderbal Police have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered a heroin-like substance from their possession during a naka checking in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kheerbhawani, officials said.
They said a police party from PS Kheerbhawani, acting on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal Khalil Ahmad Poswal (JKPS), intercepted a Maruti-800 vehicle bearing registration number JK01U-3866 at Central University, Tullamulla Road.
During the search, the officials said, a quantity of contraband heroin-like substance was recovered, leading to the arrest of two occupants of the vehicle identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, and Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Muzaffar Bhat, both residents of Batwina in Ganderbal district.
A case FIR No. 41/2025 under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Kheerbhawani, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended distribution network of the contraband, they added.
Police reiterated their commitment to curb drug trafficking and appealed to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to the menace.(SM)
