KULGAM, MAY 10: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo inaugurated the much awaited Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Memorial Cricket Tournament at DH Pora here today to energize youth towards constructive activities and physical well being.

Addressing a large gathering on the occasion, Minister Sakeena Itoo highlighted the transformative role of sports in shaping a healthy and progressive society. “Sports not only foster discipline, teamwork and physical fitness but also serve as a powerful medium to engage youth positively and keep them away from social evils”, she stated.

The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment towards strengthening sports infrastructure and creating more opportunities for talented youth across Jammu and Kashmir. She assured that every possible support would be extended to encourage budding sportspersons, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.

The Minister also interacted with players and organisers, appreciating their efforts in successfully organising the tournament. She encouraged the participating teams to play with true sportsmanship and use sports as a platform for personal growth and community development.

The tournament, organised in memory of the late Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local youth, sports lovers, civil society members and prominent citizens from across the district.

The inaugural match drew huge public enthusiasm, with spectators cheering enthusiastically as teams displayed remarkable talent and competitive spirit on the field.
